30th April 1975. The last Americans are leaving by helicopters. The war is over. Or is it...

January 2008. Americans are still in Vietnam; not as soldiers, civilians, or tourists, but as people left behind since 1975. In this photo, I, the founder of Father Founded, am with a group of Amerasians in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam.
Amerasians are people born in Vietnam to American fathers and Vietnamese mothers. Born during the war, they suffered hardships after the war and up to now, being the "children of the enemy." Some Amerasians were lucky and emigrated to the USA, their fatherland, but many more were left behind in Vietnam, far away from the USA.
Father Founded, is an non profit, free-of-charge agency that helps Amerasians and Vietnam Veterans in locating each other. The service is for all that need it, regardless of race, religion, or politics. I founded the organization after a visit to Viet Nam in 1992, where I discovered these unique, friendly people and became friends with them.
Being back to Vietnam again in January 2008, I saw by my own eyes what happened to the remaining Amerasians in Vietnam. And what should be done to help. Amerasians have few friends or organizations that care about them. And those that care and want to help have limited means of doing that.
For Father Founded, the biggest problem is economic. Being a nonprofit agency means that we don't charge our Amerasian brothers and sisters for our service; neither do we give them money, since we don't have money.
So we are now trying to raise enough money so at least one person a year can go to Vietnam to meet Amerasians for interviews about their fathers, to help in finding them. A page named "Contribution" shows how to help Father Founded, so we are able to help Amerasians.
During my tour of duty, I did 70 interviews with Amerasians, some with good information about their fathers, some with little, and many with nothing. On the pages Vietnam cases (1/2) and Vietnam cases (2/2), the new cases can be viewed. Besides that, a description of the trip with photos can be viewed on Tour of duty, Vietnam 2008.
Video made with Amerasians during my trip can be viewed at Tour of duty, Vietnam 2008 Video. Brian H

Father Founded, congratulate Kiet and hes father Gerald L ,by founding each other. When Kiet contacted the founder of Father Founded ,Brian H. It was with hope in his heart and some few info about his father,an African American military man,who did his service in Saigon, Vietnam in late 60'ties and early 70'ties. Aim with few info, we search in Vietnam and USA,but with lead to nowhere. The breakthough came, when his fathers name came up on a military veteran homepage. With that we got hold of his miliary record and a old photo of him. Kiets mother remember him by the photo. With the info,we got the Geralds adress, and with help of Kiets wife we finally reach his father, who confirm it all. Kiet and his father had met and the photos shows 2 happy men, together after so many years waiting in vain. Let this be an inspiration for any amerasian and Vietnam veteran, that anything can be possible.
Kiet says:
Since I was a small boy I wanted to know my father. I felt it was impossible to find him, and more so once I came to live in the USA. It seemed it would never be more than a 'wish'. The information about my father was incomplete or incorrect, so the chances were nearly impossible to find him on my own. In May 2008 I received a letter from Brian with a picture of my father and his military record. My mother identified the photo as being him. Snd then we asked Brian to help us find his whereabouts now. He did! My father and I have met, and now have started to get to know each other. I am so much like him and in so many ways, and am just happy to have him now and I owe that to Brian !
Thanks a million Brian.
Gerald lee says:
I am writing this letter on behalf of Gerald L. Lee to express our sincere thanks for finding his son Loc Li Dinh.
You have no idea what joy this new addition to our family brought us, to my husband it is a candle in his life that was dimmed and missing for years and years.
We started a search over many years ago and had no idea where to go, Men who were involved in war are usually silent, so it was very difficult obtaining information, but our prayers were constant and every day we prayed that the Lord would deliver this child to us. Well it happened two weeks before Father's Day, whether that was divine intervention or not we will never know, but when that call came it was like a bolt of lightening, it radiated through everyone present and lit up the candles that were once dusty. It brought us peace and without your fine and constant work we would never be where we are today, a family reunited under God's umbrella.
Loc, now Gerald L. Lee, jr. is one of the finest young men we have ever met, the fact that he looks just like his dad adds to or diminishes the mystery, to see them together is like watching a reflection. Yes, he belongs here with us and we embrace him and his offspring and wife Danielle. Our hearts are full of joy and you are the hero.
Keep up the good work, this is truly a spiritual commitment and we wish you continued success in all that you do.
Gerald L. Lee
